What is a Family History Film?

Have you ever watched a family history TV program and thought 'I wish I could have something like that for my family'?  

In other words, your own private family history film that you could leave as a legacy for your children, grandchildren or a gift to your parents?

We can create a private, professionally researched and narrated, documentary film about your family history, which would also record and preserve the voices and stories of older living generations.  Not least, taking part offers a unique experience. 

The journey begins with detailed research.  Our team has traced lineages as far back as the 12th Century, and we transform historical data into fascinating stories for you and your family to cherish. 

You’ll be at the heart of your own family film, through interviews with you and your relatives, whether at home, or anywhere in the world.  We manage the process but you are always in control of what’s included.

Each film is bespoke and normally runs for around 60-90 minutes.  We can incorporate some of your films and photos but will also source other archive material to provide historical context.

The Supercut

A Supercut transforms digitized old media into something truly unique - a beautiful program that your family can treasure for generations to come.

We’ll assess your films and photos, finding key themes and connections, and edit them into a highlights program which condenses years or decades into a digestible summary.  It’s not a slideshow - it’s a curated Supercut.

For one recent client, the DiJiFi team digitized over four miles of reel to reel film and a trunk-load of VHS tapes, slides and analog photos.  These covered the lives of a Manhattan family, from grandparents to grandchildren, from the 1940s to the 1990s.  From this vast collection we created a 60-minute ‘supercut’ of forty years’ worth of memories.

If you’re trigger-happy with your camera, you’ll know the pain of having far too many photos to ever properly appreciate - hundreds of images of every holiday and family event.  We help here too, summarizing the past year by year or just focused on big events.

Pricing

As each project is entirely bespoke, we provide individual quotations and will give you a clear and transparent budget.  Pricing for curated edits start at around $10,000 and a 60-minute film from about $50,000.
