Frequently Asked Questions

What can you digitize? →

We are able to scan all types of photo prints, slides and negatives. In certain cases we have to use a more time-consuming process (super-slides, for example) and will add a small charge for the extra labor once we have notified you. We can transfer most forms of consumer video (VHS, VHS-C, Hi8, etc.), professional video (umatic, betacam, HDCam, DVCam, Betamax, helical, etc.) consumer audio (Reel-to-Reel, Vinyl, Cassettes, etc.) and offer 8mm, Super 8, Super 8 with sound, 9.5mm, 16mm, 17.5mm, 22mm, 28mm and 35mm film transfer, with or without sound.

How fast can you turn around an order? →

Our focus is on doing the job properly, and at a comfortably efficient pace. Currently the turnaround time for most small orders is 1-2 weeks and 7-9 weeks for most large orders, depending on quantity and type of media. There are seasonal variations, and these times are not guaranteed. For customers in a hurry we will meet a deadline for a rush fee.

Why not scan and transfer my media at home myself? →

The process of scanning still images and transferring video or film is very time-consuming, and unless you have a lot of experience in photography, digital imaging or video editing, you most likely need to spend even more time learning how to produce an acceptable result. Add the cost of equipment on top of the cost of your time spent, and we think you’ll find we offer a better price as well as a better product. If you would like to give it a try yourself, call us and we’ll give you some tips.

How should I organize my media? →

However you wish. We’ll recognize any grouping you designate, and we will make sure to organize the digital files the same way you organize the original material. When shipping, make sure to pack the materials tight and safe.

These are my priceless memories. Do you understand their importance and can you guarantee they are well cared for? →

Yes, we are fully aware of the importance that these different types of media hold on a personal level. We have our own pictures and films to protect and cherish too. We can guarantee that the order is safe and kept as secure as possible during scanning or transfer, and we understand that one lost memory is not only hard on the customer but fatal for our business.

How long have you been in business? →

The company itself was established in early 2007 and our doors opened on September 1st of that year.

Where do I leave my payment information? →

We do not take payment information through our website, and for orders under $100 we do not require full payment until the order is complete. For orders over $100 we charge a 30% deposit before beginning the order which is applied to the final total once the order is complete.

Prior to beginning work on all orders we require credit card information which is kept on file. We will charge the full payment once the order is complete and picked back up (unless the order is not picked up within a week of completion, at which time we will charge the card on file).

What is the best way to ship to you? →

If you are shipping, make sure to use a service that gives you a tracking number, which means every time the package reaches a transfer point along the way to our studio, it is scanned into the system and the shipping company can better keep track of where it is. Pack everything carefully, and use zip-loc bags or bubble wrap for loose items.

Do you service across the entire US and internationally?

Yes we do!

Do you provide religious compliant scanning?

DiJiFi recognizes that there are many clients that require their media to be handled in a very specific fashion whether that be for religious or cultural reasons. As a result, at no extra charge, we can for example scan your materials using our female only technicians. This service provides that only DiJiFi's female professionals would handle and see the images on the media.

We have done work for individuals and institutions based in the both the United States and the Middle East. As a result we are familiar with the various cultural and religious requirements that stipulate who can and can not handle and see images. We have the utmost respect for these requirements and observe them as requested with complete and constant discipline.

How do I get my files once you are done?

Digital images are output as data discs or drives. Small orders can be sent via email or FTP, and all files are backed up on our servers for 14 days after the date of completion.

DiJiFi can also capture images to various guidelines including meeting FADGI (Federal Agencies Digitization Guidelines Initiative - the strict quality standards set by the federal government for their own archival projects) or METAMORFOZE image standards.

What are some of the terms in digital output that I need to know?

JPEG -- JPEG (or JPG) file for near-lossless quality at a small file size for easy backup and sharing.
TIFF -- TIFF file for absolutely lossless backup, but at a very large file size (and additional cost).
USB DRIVE -- A small thumb-sized or wallet-sized drive for portable digital storage and transfer of your data.
CD/DVD/BLU-RAY (DATA) -- Data files can be burned to disc.

What output ratios do you use for video?

Our standard output is NTSC 720×480 (4:3) and PAL 720×540 (4:3) aspect ratio, we can output 16:9 but the file will need to be reprocessed unless captured from HDV. We can transfer many other types of video formats as well, please contact us for details about formats that are not listed.

What if I have especially valuable media? How do you keep that safe?

Please know that we recognize that all of the media we convert into digital files is valuable. We work very hard to be the best custodians of the materials we receive as possible. If you have especially valuable media, you can ask us to store it in our fireproof safe when it is not being worked on. In addition to that, we are located in a secure building that requires every visitor to be acknowledged and admitted. Our studio is fully alarmed and under video surveillance. Further, visitors are not permitted beyond our reception area unless escorted by a DiJiFi employee.

Why can't I find pricing on your website?

Years ago we had an "estimator" on our website that allowed for the calculation of the cost of an order. Our experience has proven that a better approach is to work with our customers and provide pricing on each order. We work hard to provide complete pricing transparency through the entire process. We will answer all questions regarding costs with respect to media, resolution and service level options and add on services. When we previously had our estimator we found there were too many customers that entered the wrong media type, used service levels that were inappropriate for the type of project they were working on and ended up with a final estimated cost that did not reflect the work required for their order with it being at times too high and at other times, too low. The discussions trying to sort these estimates out turned out to be frustrating and not productive.
